About
Random pop-culture based ramblings.
Bienvenue! This is my 3rd… no, 4th… maybe 5th, or more, attempt at starting a Blog. The main aim is for me to have something to look back on down the road when I accomplish what I set out to do. It’s secondary use is to advertise the end product. What is that product? Well, hopefully it will be a small library of comic books written and drawn by yours truly.
I’ve been a fan of comic books for as long as I can remember. These days I mainly read Marvel and Indie books. I’ve been a fan of Marvel comics for as long as I’ve been a fan of comics in general, but I also love a lot of stuff from other, smaller, publishers. And that’s the kind of stuff I’m aiming to create myself. Small, personal stories relating to the world around us (well, mainly around me, as they all come from my point of view).
I’ve tried drawing and creating my own comics in the past (and have rejection letters from Image Comics and Caliber Comics to prove it! Woo haha!), and a few times in the last few years I have toyed with the idea of doing a full comic online. Life got in the way, things changed, and I never did anything more. Then, in early 2007, while on one of my trips to Paris, I was suddenly hit by an idea for a story while sat on the Metro. Since then I’ve kept a notebook at hand and have jotted down numerous ideas, some more fleshed out than others. Most of these ideas are set around Paris, a place for which I have an unhealthy obsession and am truly in love with. Moving from Leeds to York also helped spark the creative flame within me, as I love to walk round the city late at night when the streets are empty and the buildings are lit up. This has given me a few ideas for comics based in York.
Maybe one day I’ll hone my craft and be able to draw super-heroes in spandex beating each other up, but until then I’ll be sticking to my own ideas.
I must warn you, dear reader, that from time to time I may deviate and ramble on about films, music, books, history, politics or anything that takes my fancy. Especially films. Mainly French films.
I’m not obsessed, honest.
Aside from comics I have a huge interest in art in general, music of many genres, films all the way from Amelie to Robocop (just don’t get me started on a rant about the rubbish special effect driven crap that Hollywood pumps out these days!), history (especially the history and culture of France) and I’m starting to branch out and read more books without pictures.
I’m also a lazy lefty. I have much respect for those people out there protesting for a better world, it takes a lot of guts to truly stand up for your beliefs in the real world and not just hiding behind some website. While my political beliefs are strong, my drive in life is pointed towards art and that’s where my passion lay. I just hope that when the revolution comes I’ll be stood spray painting the wall, not stood against it blindfolded.
